Default 98 xj bumpers

Hey- anyone know of a direct replacement for bumpers? My XJ was originally a fleet vehicle, with thin crappy bumpers. I'm not an off roader, but I do intend to use my jeep for utility purposes. I'd like to find something a little more rugged, without spending a mint, or having to build my own. I like the idea of recying from other jeeps or other vehicles..

OK I know dumb question.. But I am somewhat new to jeeps, and I wasn't sure if another option was available instead of the thin folded 16 gage sheet metal bumper that's on my bone stock Cherokee.. Thanks..

Not a dumb question at all. If you want something you can do things serious with, you'll have to look at an aftermarket bumper from one of maaaany companies. There are also units like the Detours USA Backbone which add strength behind it, giving you a winch plate and eyes for hooks or clevis rings - although you still have the crap sheet metal.

Sorry... OD swallowed a bitter pill a long time ago and is still waiting to crap it out. Don't mind him

Just like Salad said though, you don't really have any bumper swapping options other than the aftermarket. I mean, you can TRY and get like a blazer bumper or whatever bumper you really like and modify it to fit, but nothing's really going to look right. The detoures backbone is a GREAT modification to your front bumper with a really doable price. You can use the bumper skin with it or just go with the detours piece by itself... you can even use the detours piece to build a bumper around it - it's really versatile.

Not really. You can find people on cl that only want $200 or less. But if nothing local I say go for it

I'd say it's on the high end of reasonable. I wouldn't personally pay that much due to the easy availability here, but it isn't a ripoff.
