i did, i flushed the trans and replaced the filter and cleaned the magnet last month (couple months after the mudding incident)

there was almost no metal shavings and filter was clean, suggesting that it was done before i bought it, still its a nice piece of mind knowing its been done.

but its got good levels and is right whenever i check it, which is every day before i drive it, so it gets checked twice a day most days.

You do not have a blown head gasket, very unlikely. Keep flushing the radiator without the Tstat in. It will take at least 6x if it is that bad to begin with. You might want to change the radiator, it will help get it cleaner more quickly. Do you know if anyone dropped "stop leak" or any other crappy snake oil in there? How's the heat? What does the bottom of the overflow bottle look like? My guess is that there is 1/2" of silt in there.

I have an Automatic with this same problem. Flushed four times, new head gasket, leakdown and compression tests are fine, all dipsticks look normal. Brown radiator fluid.

My xj is a 2wd Auto. Do the 2wd XJ's have a trans cooler? If so, I am thinking this is my problem.

I talked to the orignal owner, today. She's been pretty honest with me and upfront with everything. Even provided me a with a reciept book showing all work done. All said and done, she said the radiator has never had a problem, never been replaced and she's never added or been advised to add top leak to it.

Ive cleaned the over flow bottle each time i've flushed it. just brown crap. i wash it out pretty good and make sure its clean (almost cant tell its not new) each time before i put it back in the jeep.

Heat is fine, always within "normal levels" doesnt ever / has never, over heated on me. even when driving for hours at a time.

i guess i will flush it a few more times and see whats what..

I dont believe the tranny cooler was a "standard option" on the 2wd or 4wd for that matter.
I know mine (4wd) does not have one, i was looking to add one.
