I have a 99 cherokee sport. The mounting or frame flange, supportinh the right rear top shock mount, is tearing away from the rest of the frame member. There is not much holding it on, and I am going to take it into a fab shop tomorrow, in hopes that they can reinforce and weld it back together.

Is this the right approach? Are their options? What do I look for. Help!

Doesn't look rusty. I think you have the right idea: have a good shop take a look at it, and hope they can repair it. Let us know what they say.

 

That looks like the front leaf spring mount.....

 

Actually, you can see the white barrel of the shock absorber in the pic ...

 

Dude....that's the cross member!

Take it to legit frame & body shop and have it checked thoroughly. Those don't just crack for no reason.
