Default Broken Rear Lower Shock Bolt...?

As luck would have it, when I was replacing my rear shocks one of the lower shock bolt/stud broke despite having a good bath of Kroil. Not having a 5/8 bolt handy, in a pinch I drilled & tapped the remaining stud for a grade 8 5/16 bolt. Being that this really doesn't support the shock and just retains it on the stud, I think I'm ok. But I've said that before and have had them come back to bite me in the ***. Does this seem like a reasonable fix (temporary or long term)?

Same here

Mines been like that for 6 months
Loctite the bolt.
No problems yet. Mine was previously blazed on snapped almost flush as soon as I put a socket on it.
It's only to retain it
No shear force on it
No welder,must improvise sometimes.

Here is what Ive used in the past. Cut all of the old hardware off and drill a 1/2" hole for the new bolt. Takes less than 1/2 an hour.
