Default Broken Hood Lock, 1985 Chief

I have a '85 Cherokee (Chief), the stage 1 XJ. The hood will no longer lock into place. I believe a spring has broken off the lock assembly which allowed it to lock shut. Although, I've seen dozens of XJ hood fixes, none seem to have answers for this model specifically. All information is geared toward the models that feature 2 latches on the driver and passenger sides. The easiest answer is to replace the lock assembly, or the spring that broke, however, I can't find anything for an 85. Most are 87 and onward. I know I could search junkyards, but I was wondering if there were alternatives. To be clear, my hood does *not* have to diver/passenger side latches. There is one latch on the inside closer to the grill in the center.

Does anyone have any information on the design of the 1985 XJ hood lock/release? I could use any constructive help!

I have no knowledge on the 85 model year. I can think of two options though.

1. Hood pins. I'm not a fan, too ricer looking.
2. Swap the hood for a newer one with two latches. I'm not sure how feasible this option is, but it may prove easier than finding a latch assembly for the older one.
