Default Broken crankcase(?) breather hose. Can this temporary fix work?

So I changed my valve cover gasket today. Everything went smooth except when removing the (what I think is) the crankcase breather hose. Well it's the rear one anyway, if you have the exact name I'd like to hear it!

Now it broke in 2 places. At the end of the elbow completely and in the middle of the pvc pipe at about 90% (only a little piece holding it together. I used some electric tape to fix the whole thing and hopefully be able to get to work before being able to get a new hose.

My question is, do you think this fix will prevent rough idle / other problems a broken hose could bring? I blew in it and there was no leak I could discern, but again I was just blowing. I also started the jeep for 1-2 minute to make sure everything was fine and during that quick test nothing seemed off.

I need to use the jeep before I can get the part, hence why I'm wondering about this.

Any input appreciated! Thanks

Should be fine, tube can be had for $10-$20 from most parts stores. Search Cruiser54s renix tips for the Napa and dorman part number

You will be fine.

My jeep had a hole in the plastic tube when i bought it. It ran fine, i fixed it with electrical tape until i was able to fix it with a piece of silicone hose.

Just replace that old plastic hose with a rubber hose when you can.

What does the rubber one you're talking about here looks like? A generic rubber hose or a specific one?

Because everywhere I look, this part is above 60$ and I'd rather not spend that much.

Anyone? I'd hook up a rubber hose from the PCV valve to the end of the plastic tube that goes into the intake but I'm not sure if it will create a vacuum leak since the rubber going around the valve might be too large in diameter?

Thanks

Get a rubber tube that is the right size and then it won't leak.

That is correct (in my Chris Farley voice from Billy Madison!)

get to a napa store. take the broken hose off and into the store with you. They should be able to fix you up.

Well of course I know I need to find the proper size tube, but the problem is that the PCV valve size is larger than the intake manifold output.

For the interested this is what I did

The end going in the intake manifold is still the same plastic tubing with the rubber around it attached to my smaller hose.

Thanks for the replies.

I did and the guy didn't seem to know what to do with it. Blame it on lack of experience but 2 napa stores couldn't help me and referred me to the dealer. Found nothing under 60$ for a piece of plastic tubing with rubber on the ends, even online.

I replaced mine with 3/8" brake hose and some rubber line to the elbows. The elbows are roughly 1/2" diameter.

To replace e the front line I used part of the old EVAP line.
This is on an 88 MJ with a few 92/99 add ons.

I bought one from an online Jeep dealer (cheaper), I hate doing things "Half-Azzed" unless its on some POS I going to sell quick.

My father beat that into my head many years ago the first time I remember was about 7 or 8 yrs. old and building fence on the farm. I hated how long it took to build corners (properly) hand dug holes using hedge fence posts we had cut, filled with rock we had picked up, no chain saws and all those dam thorns. For those of you not knowing anything about building a barbed wire or field fence the corners are 95% of the quality and longevity of a fence.

So much for that BS I would do anything in a pinch to fix something to get it home but for a long term one do it right. JMHO
