Going to replace back brakes on my 2001 later...lost my link to the service manual. I know where mostly everything goes...not my first time at the rodeo...but wanted to make sure i have the correct placement of the long and short shoe meaning one of the friction pads is long and the other is shorter. I want to make sure I haven't screwed it up over the years...a link to the service manual would be appreciated...thanks in advance
I have a hard copy of a '01 FSM.
They show an illustration of the right rear.
The call the shoe on the left the "trailing shoe".
One on the right the "leading shoe".
But best I can tell no description to be able to identify which is which.
The secondary shoe has a longer and larger lining surface than the primary shoe and is relied on to do 75 percent of the braking. The term duo-servo means that the force-multiplying servo action of the brakes occurs when the vehicle is moving forward or in reverse.
Thanks..had them correct..what a rusty hunk of junk..had to beat the drums off with a sledgehammer.. everything in there is a rusty piece of garbage. I have new drums, brake shoes, and adjusting kits but the main shoe return springs and the parking brake arm return spring is not included...advance and autozone do not seem to list what I need on their website...does anyone have a decent part number for the things i need...thanks. Will post pictures tomorrow
Thanks for the help...it became quite a job...found the main brake hardware kit at Auto zone...8 bucks..had everything I needed. Then I found the wheel cylinders mostly frozen ..had to get 2 of them...and just to top everything off when I tried to remove the brake lines from the wheel cylinders...the line was frozen to the nut so they snapped on both sides. Put everything back together today looks nice..will get the new ss axle lines within the next couple of days. Surprisingly both fittings spun out of the main distribution block with minimal effort. Autozone had every part I needed but their search has lots of extraneous junk that takes a while to filter through to get to the stuff you need..And thanks to the link to the manuals. Did not have a whole lot of detail on installing the parts but had 10 pages on honing the wheel cylinders. Go figure but thanks I'm sure that link will come in handy. Will fire off a bunch of pictures tomorrow
