Brake problem
Weird problem with a 2000 XJ. Brand new calipers as well as pads and rotors. Under normal braking everything seems to work fine. After some more aggressive braking and what i can only assume would also mean more heat, The brakes make a weird grinding noise. It feels like it's coming from the left front. It's stumping me as everything is new. Any help would be appreciated.

Yea. Maybe jack it up and check for play of the wheel. Also if it's making a grinding noise, presumably you could see what's rubbing to make it.

Normally "pulsing" is what you get from an old rotor that warps when it's hot. I'd at last check that the bearing is not letting the wheel move and you have everything in the right place!

I've had an odd braking issue and wonder if it's the same as yours. It does this weird stutter, the only analogy I can think of is like when you rub your wet fingers across a clean plate and it sort of chatters grip-slip-grip-slip-grip-grip-slip. When my brakes do it they produce a sort of groaning noise (I do not have ABS).
For me, the problem is intermittent, only happens occasionally then goes away.

I got the "stutter" brake pulse just from my greasy finger prints on the back of the rotor. I figured it would "burn off" after a few uses of the brake. It didn't. I ended up using brake kleen spray to clean it all up. Works fine now.
