Default bolt spinning on rear shock mount?

so im replacing my rear shocks because the rubicon express ones took a dump and i just need a band aid till my lift comes in, so im trying to get the top ones and they just keep spinning? someone installed a kit before me, so do you think they put a nut on top? and i now have to fish around with a wrench till i hope i get the right size ?

i just fished mine in and started bolting down. As long as the nuts and bolts are new and the threads are clean the nut should really just hold itself on the metal while you crank it down. If nothing else you can lay a tack on the nut to hold it, that's how they are stock. If you need a better explaination or wanna see it just google it, theres PLENTY of people who just fish the nuts in, and im one of them.

I don't understand the problem. In the time it took you to type this, you could have found the correct size wrench.

There is plenty of room. Take a breath and relax. It's not easy when you are already frustrated.

if theres a nut you would see it, if not it probably broke loose. Are you saying the bolt is in there attached already but just wont tighten? If so i would honestly just cut the bolt and start anew.. because those tacks run half way up the nut most times.

lol and deep breath,
the re shock is blown out , i am taking them off right now,
im was trying to clarify if the indeed is a nut on top of the bolt that holds the upper shock to the frame,
i cant tell for the life of me if im getting the wrench on the nut or not, because 1 i cant feel my hands lol, two im not certain the size or if there is even one, i was thinking about getting a cold chisel and taking the head off but i cant get a hammer in there to swing hard enough , also if i do that its a long long long cold walk to a hardware store , and im not really into putting it back together to drive down the street if i can get it right now,

so there is a nut on top of these bolts correct and it will just take some time to get them out?

ps, still a dumb idea to have them like that and not a nut welded inside

It normally is a nut welded on the inside. Just most people dont retack a new one in its place, just fish it in there.

If you can't get a wrench to fit the nut, try a pair of needle nose vise grips. Once you get them out, get a set of stainless steel nuts and bolts and fish the bolt through the access hole and use the nut at the bottom.

Default Stop and think this through

The bolts probably broke when the lift was installed and someone fished new bolts in their place. Some threads here suggest replacing with a 1/4-20 bolt although I would suggest a 5/16". If the bolt is 1/4"-20 then the head is 7/16". If the bolt is 5/16" then the head is 1/2". You should be able to get a boxed in wrench in there. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
