So my fender was knockedback and dented my door some. It has a small crack that is rusting. I have a dumb question. What is that automotive glue? or something that you can repair the body with? Is it called Bondo or something? I am going to dent my fender out but will need to seal the crack and prime/paint it. Where can I get such an item? Also I want to replace a piece of fiberglass (header panel) that broke in half. Is there something you can buy to simply re-attach it so you cant't see that it is broken? I am about to just put a little piece of wood behind it and predrill a hole and rivet it. But I would like to not rivet and see if there is a thick glue that can hold something together pretty well. I know these are simple questions! But this is the first time I have really gotten deep into body work other than simply denting stuff out or buying new fenders.

 

You can get Bondo at AutoZone, Pepboys, or pretty much any automotive store. Be careful not too add too much hardener when mixing the Bondo or it will dry real quick and become hard to work with. There are plenty of videos around on how to Bondo. Go and YouTube and search Bondo and I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials that you can learn from. Also, for the fiberglass, Bondo makes something for that in their line of products. It might be called Bondo Hair, but don't quote me on that.

The filler putty is what is used to fill dents, cracks, and all that stuff. The filler putty is what is often just referred to as Bondo. Hope some of this info will help you in your fix.

 

You can buy bondo at any auto parts and wal-mart,remove dents as much as possible and prepare area very well,do not put on to much at one time instead layer it,may take several applications,sand every application smooth before applying another layer,the bumper can be fixed with fiberglass and cloth you can buy to use with the fiberglass,again it may take several applications to be strong enough,just apply it to the back side. If you have a garage it will be better both products work better when warm.
Also need alot of patience.

 

Yea, I definitely agree with the patience. My buddy tried selling an S10 with rusted rockers and doors and best offer was $500. I spent a week doing Bondo on it and painting it nice and he ended up selling it for $1250. So, do it right the first time, because it pays off.

Also, with the whole coldness factor. If you don't have a garage, add extra hardener. I tore a hole in the body of my jeep so I had to weld a patch in and bondo it in 40 degree weather. I added extra hardener and it still took overnight to dry.

 

Also drill a few small holes in the body panel where the bondo will be applied so when you apply the bondo it fills in the holes. Doing this helps the bondo hold to the panel it acts like nails. This will help keep the bondo in place
