But if you THOUGHT you only had 2 options and someone came along and gave you a 3rd option that you didn't think of... would you consider it or completely ignore them?

That just blows my mind. I couldn't imagine spending 1500 bucks one something so simple because I was not willing to take someone else's advice and be confident in myself.

.u just took a dig at me. plain and simple. wasnt very nice. thats all.
i appreciate those on here who just gave me some thoughts and opinions. greatly appreciated. people who throw comments out about me like you who say i must be like someone who pays 350 to cut my lawn or whatever....u can keep it to yourself. thats all im saying. i was in and i am in a stressful situation. b4 he even looked at engine he gave me those 2 choices based on fact that the head gasket blew 1 week ago. just happened to be crazy chance that the blue devil is holding and now the water pump went. it gave the same symptoms so we all assumed head gasket again.
i paid 300 for water pump job. and today he is putting in a new radiator also.....im not getting the best cooling capacity.....may be junked up from blue devil. so i just feel better throwing one of them in also.
its scary when u r in a town with no one u know...your dog....your whole life packed in ur jeep and camper and running low on money with no job because u r just trying to get across the country to start ur life over.
i do appreciate all input from all. i have come here many times for jeep issues and i always walk away with some good info!

...It wasn't a "dig". It was my attempt at assisting you in getting you out of the situation that you couldn't seem to figure out.
Did you attempt one single thing that I suggested that would have cost you $0 and took less time than it took to write that long accusing post?
I don't think that you did.
The main thing I suggested was to create a post on this forum or another in the local chapter and ask for help.
Had you been in my neck of the woods I would have installed a water pump for free. It would have taken all of 1 hour. You would have invested 36 bucks for a new water pump... I'm certain there are others in your current area that would have done the same.
My "digs" are nothing like anything I've posted in this thread. Trust me.
I'm glad you got it all squared away. I wish you luck thru the rest of your trip.

And if so what did you pay for it?
I just id mine last month it was $60 for a set of gaskets that you need for the whole project, I wire-brushed and "machined" the head myself to get it cleaned and prepped.
Got a straightedge level and a gauge to check for any warpage.
I mean I literally just paid $60 and a few 5 hour days of my time, I wouldn't call the project simple, but if you got a buddy (or 2 or 3) it can fairly quick, can actually be fun and gives you a chance to see the condition of the upper part of your engine. I cleaned the carbon off the top of my pistons for example, and bored out the exhaust and intake manifolds that were also full of carbon; could have done a valve job, but that's a little extra $ and at 245k I may have just been wasting time.
Anyways moral of my story is, if you can, do a head gasket yourself, do some research, get the torque specs for all the bolts, label things and keep things organized.
I am not sure you were in the position to do this easily, but I would forcefully find a way to do it this way if the dude was telling me $1500. Rent tools, bring it down to a locals house you trust IDK.
Like I said $60 bucks and 5 hours a day for 4-5 days for me, and thats partially cause I was getting into cleaning up things, putting in a 99+ manifold etc. lol.
Oven cleaner+Carbon deposits=War.
But honestly, no offense, you could probably get 2 4.0's under 100K for $1500. Hell maybe under 70K.
