Blower only works on lowest 2 settings.
96 County, 4.0/Auto.
Ok so here is the deal. When I bought my XJ the blower motor worked on speeds. A few months ago the highest speed went out. Today the next highest speed went so I only have the 2 lowest speeds. If you select either of the speeds that have gone out the fan stops blowing. I have read about a fan resistor but that seems to result in only the high speed working. I did notice when I did the heater core job that the top terminal on the blower switch was melted a bit but the plug went on and off, would this cause an issue ?

It sounds like it's time to pull the heater control switch panel and check the connections for melting. It is a common problem with them melting on our XJ's.
Kinda thought he might be the culprit. At least it isn't hard to get to. Do you know if I can just buy the fan switch separately or do I have to get the whole climate control panel ?

if you're buying from the dealer, you can only buy the whole control panel.
but if your connectors are melted, the dealer doesn't sell those, you would have to cut and splice good ones from a donor jeep at the wreckers.
might as well just grab the control unit from the wreckers too, much cheaper.
i had to replace the one on my 99 tj twice. first one i bought at the dealer, 140 bux. next from the wreckers at 20 bux. bought a spare from a part out for 10 only cuz i know i will need it at some point.
there was a write up in the petersons off road mag a few years ago about wiring in a relay for each speed control to help with the current draw. that was for the tj, but i'm sure the same applies for the xj.
