Default Blinkers only work when brakes are presses

I have a 99 sport and recently I've noticed my blinkers only work if in pressing the brake pedal and can not figure out what the problem is. Also at the same time the blower motor, rear wiper and electric cooling fan have also stopped working at the same time. Any thoughts on how to fix or what the issue is would be appreciated.

Years back, I owned a 1990 Ranger. I had a similar issue with my blinkers, and it turned out to be the multi function switch in the steering column. The blinkers, flashers, and brake lights all went through the multi function switch, so when it failed it caused issues with my blinkers working correctly.

It sounds like you've got a classic case of electrical gremlins, and the fact that your blinkers only work when you hit the brakes is a huge clue. The first thing I'd check is your turn signal switch (aka multifunction switch) since it controls both functions and is a known weak point in XJs. But given that your blower motor, rear wiper, and cooling fan all died at the same time, this is likely bigger than just one switch you're probably dealing with a bad ground connection or a failing ignition switch. Start by cleaning and tightening all the major ground points (battery to body, engine to chassis, and fuse block grounds). If that doesn't fix it, test/replace the ignition switch it powers all those circuits and fails often. Less likely but worth a look: a chewed-up harness or corroded fuse block.

I am having this same issue. checked all my grounds and they were good ran a hot wire directly to my blower motor and it fired right up. back to the drawing board i went. looking at electrical schematics i found theres a red black wire that goes from the ignition switch to the junction box that controls blower fuse, rear defog, rear wi[er and the airbag module. All of which went out at the same time. (minus the blinkers but i still believe they are related.) i attached the schematic showing this. i have all the electrical schematics for my 1999 i believe theyre the same til 01. i can send them to you if youd like. i am working for the rest of the week but i will start at the ignition switch on saturday and trace that wire to see what i can see. Also if youve already solved this issue. Please for the love of god update me on this thread,

I did not "fix" however i did find a way to make it work. I jumped my blower relay with a wire and it worked, cycled through all speeds and everythin. i then tested the connections on the relay harness The red wire has constant 12v from battery and the blue white wire is responsible for closing the relay circuit, with the key in run position this connection did not have any volts. So i piggy backed a fuse and ran power to this blue/white wire (i tied in near the relay, however i believe you could tie into the wire anywhere and it would work) this immediately solved all issues with blinkers, blower and airbag light, rear defog and wiper i believe it is most likely an issue with the junction fuse block itself. fuses 23-26 did not have power with key on, I will probably just run this piggy back fuse for as long as this jeep runs as i see it as having the same effiiciency and electrical safety. may try getting a junkyard junction block just to experiment if that is in fact the issue. Hopefully if someone else has this issue this will help get you back up and running. check your blower relay harness with key on and if blue white wire does not have power just piggy back a fused wire to it and it should "fix" it!
