Bearing caps 3 & 4 are widling shavings into the pan, Shes done for. At least I found it before i found out whatever happens to a running engine when it really goes.
I had no symptoms that alerted me to any problems before I dropped the pan to replace the RMS.
however, I believe this to be the result of hydro locking the engine a couple years ago.
now I look to you all,
What Should I expect to pay for a New engine and labor?
I say new engine because with the miles on this one, I assume fixing/ tunning up the rest of it wouldn't be worth the cost. Or would likely be the same as a new H.O. 4.0L. One would want to address everything this late in it's life.
I'm not interested in a 4.7 as I won't be doing the work, cost is far more than a new 4.0(iirc) and I don't want to put extra coin into a motor that most say always runs rich/ temperamental issues, trying to make it run healthy. I dream of the power though, oh well.

Why not build for mild boost? From what I've been reading/researching (no actual experience with this yet) even in fresh stock trim mild boost really wakes up the 4.0. So if you take the time to build it with small improvements now for a mild amount of boost at the end you could have the power you want and the added security of knowing it can handle the pressure. Reliable power on tap :-)

Sorry for your loss. I am mourning the loss of my 00 LTD. Originally Posted by 4x4jeepmanthing

My recent investigation led me to the conclusion that I should get another vehicle. Remanufactured engine: $1500-2500
or Parts yard: $350-500
Labor? Unknown. $100 per hour where I live.
It would only be financially smart if I had the skills and a place to do it myself.

The other option might be to get a crash damaged or rusted jeep with a decent engine - preferably you one you can hear running. There'd still be the labour cost of course, but you'd have a decent engine without the cost of a re-man.
Boost doesn't make this engine unreliable. Lack of tuning, or no tuning at all is what kills them. An extra Atmosphere really wakes the 4.0 up.

That was kind of my point, more reliable than a stroker when done correctlyOriginally Posted by Cummins93
