Best tools for a pinion seal swap on 8.25?

Default Best tools for a pinion seal swap on 8.25?

Hey guys what tools are good to have when changing out the pinion seal?

Ive got to swap a bent shaft this week so Im going to do it while Im there.


Any write-ups on this?

-Take off the driveshaft
-Use a punch/chivel a put a small mark on the pinion shaft and nut[these will be alignment marks for when you reassemble it later]
-Use an Impact gun to remove pinion nut
-Use a hammer and tap off the yoke[or you can use a gear puller too]
-Use a seal puller or large screw drive to remove old seal[if using a seal puller, try not to scratch the axle housing when removing]
-Find something that is round and is the same size as the outer lip of the seal[like a piece of tube] and use that to drive the seal into the axle housing
-Lube where the seal will touch the Yoke with bearing grease
-Slide the yoke back on
-Reinstall the pinion nut and make sure you line up the marks you made earlier.

Thats how i do it, never had a problem
