best tires for street and mud?
Im about to replace all 5 of my 32"s and am looking around to see what kind of tires I should be putting on my XJ. I definately spend more time on pavement than not with this vehicle, but I would still like something with an agressive tread that will be good for mud and sand (just moved to florida).
any thoughts on what would be a good compromise?

I know someone who runs the BFG MT/As and has for at least a year and they did great in the mud and still look brand new. I'm definitely not saying they're thrashed on the road, from what I've seen they're taken care of, but they'll definitely last.

Down here in FL alot of folks run Interco Swampers, with the TSL and Bogger being favorites as I have seen. Now these tires don't always make the best sand tires, some folks even call them gravediggers for their tendency to dig down into the sand and bury themselves. On the other hand though I have always heard that the Goodyear MT/R performs very well in both sand and mud, as well as being sticky on the street. Only downside being the noise. I'm planning on going with Treadwright's MT/R clone when I replace my tires in order to get the best compromise between traction in this swampy *** FL mud, and this sugar *** FL sand!

you are looking for something that is non existent
every one has preferences and they all differ
driving habits type of terrain all differ
the closest you will get is to talk to people that are local
and run the same trails you do

Depending on where the OP is from, I may be local, lol. In FL off roading is almost seasonal. With two main seasons, dry season, and wet. All dry season long the whole world is a sandpit down here in southern Sarasota county, then when the rain comes it's nothin but hard pack sand and deep mud! It's almost worth having a set of tires for each season IMO!

I have always found regular old street radials to be a great sand tire also
but sand and mud is a hard one
typically every thing you want in a mud tire
is exactly what you dont want in a sand tire

if money isnt an issue I would look in the BFG KM2 or the Fire Stone Mud. the fire stones only come in two sizes 32x10.50 or 33x12.50, you can get about 50,000 miles out of them. they are very quite for a md tire also so you dont have to yell at your friend to talk.

i like my interco truxus. great road manners, highway sound is minimal, great tread pattern. in the snow, they are great, need to be doing atleast 20 for them to clear out though. sand is no problem and mud is no match. they wear really nice too, and they are not really badly priced. mine are siped too and that really helps. thats my 2 cents.
