Well, my 89 XJ sport with the 4 liter is not warming up properly and I believe I have a thermostat that is stuck open. Not a big deal to change so I'm going to go ahead with it soon.
My question is that since I live in a very cold environment, is there a certain temp t-stat that I should run and if so why?
Thanks in advance.

We've had a "Made in the USA" Stant SuperStat (about $5 at most auto parts stores) in our XJ for almost 5 years now and it works great.......although our XJ has never said whether or not it loves it.
I believe dealership stats r some off brand made in some foreign country.

. Stats without the jiggle valve have a "V" notch that "bleeds" when the motor is either on or off.

Ya I was confused when I picked it up. Can't say I've had a problem out of it though. Runs at proper temp with it.

Try installing OEM for a change. 99.9% of the complaints here regarding component failure are due to cheap, aftermarket junk.
You get what you pay for, as my Grandfather once told me. He drove a 1947 Buick nearly his entire life after High school, and he forgot more about car maintenance than I will ever know. He always installed factory parts, even back then.

I've had 15 different vehicles, all with stant Tstats, and never had a problem with any of them. definitely run the factory recommended temp, idk that using a mopar factory replacement is necessary. $30 for a $2 part seems a bit silly.
