I've been having a squeal from the front of my jeep for the past couple of days and got even worse today. My A/C clutch was broke and I thought for sure that was the noise I was hearing. I replaced it a few days ago and no change. I dug deeper into it today and still came up empty.
I finally started looking at my pulley alignment and notice my fan clutch pulley wasn't running square. I got on Google and ruled out many options but stumbled across a potential issue, the harmonic balancer. I had already checked the pulleys and bearings so I knew they were good.
I crawled under my Jeep to take a look. Sure enough, the harmonic balancer has walked out 1/8 to 1/4". My long post is to help other people check this out if their Jeep is squealing like a hog but also to ask where is a good place to get one or stay away from. I have KOI (which sales Federal) and NAPA that will deliver to me. I want to save money where possible but I don't want to do it twice.
I ended up and got one from NAPA. It wasn't a bad job. With my front bumper I made, the 2" receiver hole lined up perfect with the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer on. I was able to zip it off fairly easy with extensions and my impact.
