Default been awhile, but I have questions on recent buy.

Last night I bought a 1993 Cherokee Sport 2wd. 4.0,AX15. The problem it has is a NO START issue. I can see the CPS has been replaced. I did not have too much time to diagnose. But the owner said it ran fine, then one day would not start. He pushed on the schrader (SP?) valve on the fuel rail, fuel came out and it would start...????? Any ideas? Thank You very much, and it GREAT to be back in a JEEP.

The valve your talking about looks like a valve stem from a tire. Its right on the fuel rail. Try doing what the PO did and see if it starts.

That valve is meant to have a gauge hooked to it so you can verify good fuel pressure. Just pressing on the valve and getting a squirt doesn't mean you have good pressure.

If its not fuel pressure related, it could possibly be a timing issue.

Right, it looks like a valve stem from a tire. But I dont understand why releasing pressure would make it start.

Does it crank? Does it have spark? Does the 93 have a Clutch Switch? Test the Crank Position Sensor and the Cam position Sensor. NEWish does not equal GOOD. Test fuel Pressure. Is the pump Working?

Well, I am going to try and get it home today or tomorrow. So I can start diagnosing it.
Here's a pic of it. Got it for $500

I would test the fuel pressure, you can rent the tool at the store. I'm not 100% but i know my 95 doesnt have a clutch switch or at least it doesnt do anything.

Yep, it's right under the distributor cap, it's also called a pickup coil.

Oh ok, Thank you. But would that make it start after pressure is released from the fuel rail?

Well, I got it home. When I tried starting it,got nothing. SO I gave it a shot of starting fluid...it started momentarily. So I am thinking fuel pump. I can hear it turn on when the key is cycled, but no pressure from the gauge port. Does this sound right?

Does it have fuel in the tank? It does sound like a fuel pump crapping out.

I got the old pump out yesterday. It did not have a sock on it(strainer). At one time it has been replaced with a carter fuel pump. I ordered a Bosch from Napa, will be here on Tuesday.
Also this weekend I hit the junkyards and got 8 "703" NEON/STRATUS injectors. So I get to cleaning them up and ready for install.
Oh and YES it has gas in the tank.

Carter fuels pumps is what the factory used, so it may have been the original pump.
