Default Bedliner in rear trunk area

Has anyone every tore up the interior carpet behind the back bench seat (mines a 2door) and just put that bed liner down?

I'm kinda getting tired of vacuuming/cleaning my carpet. If i tore out the carpet and just bed lined it, i could just sleep out the dirt.

The only real problem i can foresee is just more road noise?

What do you think?

I am concidering ripping up all the carpet and putting down bed liner and then putting new carpet back in up until the back of the front seats. I have a buddy that has the bed liner through the whole jeep and he said its too loud and too hot.

It's funny you ask, I just finished putting all the interior panels back in today after using Herculiner on my rear cargo area and it came out great. I wouldn't say there is any more noise because after three coats it's about 3/16" thick. I've used it before and it's great stuff. If you want some pictures let me know and I'll take some tomorrow.

Yeah, it's definitely a good idea. If i do it i will do the entire jeep floor though and get some carpet for the first few feet like i said. I may just end up doing the back though. I have these metal strips in the carpet that are breaking and really annoying!

Yeah i have the same metal runner things. Only one is missing, but im mainly just tired of cleaning it, and trying to keep that rear carpet smelling clean. It's the worst part of the carpet in my xj, its all stained, not real real bad. Just enough to consider doing something different. The rest of my carpet is SPOTLESS..

Yeah, please do take some pictures. Do you have a 2 door? I'm trying to decide if i do, do this. What i will do with the back of the rear seat that folds down to become part of the 'rear bed' if you will. Maybe just tear out the carpet on the back side of that seat, and put in a piece of 3/16th sheet metal, screw it in to w/e supports are there, and just bed line that too?

hmm, i might be on to something there.

what you can do is bolt some type of plastic or thick vinyl that you can line as well.
Now i am really wanting to do this. I have many more things i need first though lol like a new CB and 33's.

haha, i want to do so many things at once, and i've only had mine for about 2 weeks. Its in my buddys garage right now, gettings doors/ front fenders painted gray to match, and getting the grill and head light trim peices blacked out... excited. haha.

I'll prolly bed line mine within the month, in a paycheck or two. When i do i'll take pics of mine as well.

Ok, I'll get some pics. Yes, it's an 89 2 door. I hadn't thought about the back of the seat. The carpet on it is in a lot better shapen than the floor was. It feels hard underneath so I sure the carper could be removed and something hard installed so you could bed line it too. Hmmm, that actually sounds like a good idea. Might do that later on. You wouldn't want 3/16 tho. A piece that big would weigh 40-50 pounds. 20 gauge would be plenty thick enough.

Sweet, and you didn't notice any more road noise per say? How far past the rear back rest/seat did you go?

No I didn't notice any, but Jeeps aren't all that quiet to begin with! I just went as far as you can see, just past the bend. I didn't do under the rear seat. I didn't see a need to. It looks nicer in person than it does in the pics. Just don't use the cheap crap that Walmart sells.
