bearing problem

i have a 97 Cherokee with the d35 in the rear and i replaced my gear lube and figured I'd inspect axles at the same time when i slid out the axle and looked down the tube there was a round spring thing what is this and where does it go?

I am not an expert on differentials but I am pretty sure there are no springs involved in a Stock Dana 35. Could it be a spring from your drum brakes?

Could be. I had an 89 cherokee and I found this little spring thing poking out of my drum. Drove fine and everything but it was a bit odd. But yea pics would be a big help.
