No, listen. You can run stock tires on a 4.5" lift and have it look funny while you save up for some 32s or 33s, instead of wasting money on 31s and not being happy till you get 32s or 33s.

Or you can not lift it until you get money for the 32s or 33s and then do it all at once

Not really that much, just the normal cut/fold on the rear, and in the front I trimmed right around the top of where the flares were. You can see pics of it in my build. Link is in my sig.

I do realize that there have been like a million threads on Rubicon Express and Rusty's lifts but, when I did a search for BDS it was to short and I couldn't find a way to bypass that.

Offroadnut, when I went to my local shop the guy was telling me the opposite saying that i would regret getting 33s and to stick with 31s on a 4.5" lift. He said that it would be annoyingly slow without regearing, do you have any problems with stock gearing?

It has gotten slower, but not so much that its annoying. Not sure what all that guys knows about this stuff, but My jeep is a 1990 with 200k miles on a renix 4.0 and I can still get up to 50 mph pretty easily. And in 4lo you can barely tell anything changed.

You also have to realize the faster you go the more your speddo is going to be off, so when you're going 50 your probably actually doing closer to 55.

True but I was assuming that with out the correct speedo gear.

(do you know what size gear I need with 3.55s and 33s, by any chance?)

I have the RE 4 1/2 with 33x10.50s. This is my first Cherokee so I don't have anything to compare the lift to but so far I like the RE. I had to trim the front fenders because the 33's rubbed. They also rub a little at the very bottom of the rear quarter.

You need a 30 tooth gear

What kind of shop are you getting your advice from? Remember, the guys that build big Ford/Chebbys aren't necessarily the people to see for XJ upgrade information. 33s with stock gears isn't so bad. Just know that you can't peel out. 65mph is 65mph no matter how "fast" the vehicle is. Just might take you a few extra seconds to get there.

I trimmed about an inch front and back and am rolling 32's on about 3 inches. I rub at full wheel turn, and could use some bumpstops. However I dont think you'll have an issue running up to a 34 x 1050 with some minor trimming. If it were me, I would stuff some 34's under mine, I just don't have the loot stacks to pick up a set, gotta pay for daycare you know.
