The vehicle was upside down so the engine compartment was already full of fuel from that old fuel atomization device called a "carburetor" when it lit up....
Thanks for those details.
Makes sense now.

Not to take away from that tragedy but the root cause was the accident itself whatever caused it with the unsecured battery as the primary factor causing the fire.
That gas still spewing from that carb's upside down engine could indeed have been ignited by arcing from the melted battery plates especially if the fire occurred a while after that roll over or....

...if the fire was more or less instantaneous after the roll over, its likely the relocated or upside down battery's positive (+) post could of touched and shorted out to the frame, hood or other parts at battery negative (-) potential creating arcing 'before' the battery melted from the fire or landing on the exhaust manifold.
Either way its a tragic accident.

I was the first person to spot a rollover a few years ago. A car was upside down in a large deep drainage ditch on a lonely country road.
The tires were still spinning so it just happened.
Lucky i saw the dust from the rollover as the car was completely invisible from the road due the the deep ditch and heavy brush.

The doors were pinned in by the deep ditch walls. The woman inside was screaming 'get me out of here'.
I definitely would of broke the rear window to get her out if there was a fire.
But no sign of fire so i called 911 instead with my lug nut wrench in hand just in case a fire erupted.

Luckily the County Police and Fire Dept. showed up in a few minutes and broke the rear window to get her out.

On another note.
Lead/acid vehicle batteries are capable of producing a lot and i mean a lot of energy enough to arc weld with.
Once again people, make sure those batteries are tied down.

Dunno man you seem pretty hot and bothered

you keep taking shots at the site as a whole. I actually am of the opinion that this place is very friendly and helpful. It's a great place full of knowledgable, passionate people, just like mark. You think he has an agenda against you? Based on my knowledge, marks just a fiery dude. Don't think he means any harm. My guess is that he probably doesn't even remember you since you've been gone awhile haha. And you keep saying that he is a represenation of the people on this site as a whole. No one else is giving you a "hard time. Heck on other threads you've posted on, you've received some very friendly responses, even from mark regarding your sign language interaction with police.

like I said before, just relax and don't let anything or anyone on the internet bother you so much haha

Thank you very much for a little "positive" rather than "Negative" input here. No pun intended. The adrenaline rush from being the first person to an accident scene and the sense of seriousness and reality is something that gets implanted and you will never forget.

You need to dig deeper... I never have disrespected anyone here and have always been courteous. From the day I joined this gentleman has had a hard on for me. As for the site in whole? It has become so commercialized with ads and trackers they should be paying members to even come and participate. So being courteous and friendly to welcome more participation should be a no brainer... Last thing you want is to allow an environment that runs folks off, it's bad business.

This is coming from a webmaster and domain owner who knows quite a bit about marketing in all aspects. I just happen to also own a jeep Xj.

Look...I am going to be bunt, honest and realistic here... There was a time right after I first joined when the owners wanted to end the forum and put it on an automatic Q&A system with no human input at all. I stood behind this forum and raised hell that it needs to stay as is with real human input.

I would like to think as a new member my opinion may have helped in preventing this action. Now looking at this place from the owners perspective is is a BUSINESS. EVERYONE who comes here is a CUSTOMER for their ads. EVERYONE, so this forum needs to remember that option is always still there if they choose to use it.

I have still been coming and reading not logged in since I first joined. I see new members ask questions and they don't get answered for sometimes a couple days or more, sometimes they are not even addressed at all. I'm just saying that when you create a negative environment, only address your own selfish eccentricities, and forget why this forum is here you are all risking the security of the forum as a whole.

Just an observation to consider in how you treat your CUSTOMERS. Of which I just happen to be also... I come read and click on ads too when they interest me... But if participation is limited or harassed it is only a matter of time when there will be only five users in this club and the owners will change the format.

But what do I know?

I am not the guilty predator in this, and I have the absolute right to defend myself after being attacked. Just not here apparently by common conscientious ... I have a lot of friends who I like and respect here, you and Mark just screwed that all up for me. He was just laying in wait for my name to pop up again so he could jump me.

Good... thank you for your reply... The true integrity of this forum has now been confirmed for me. Why anyone would even consider becoming a "Premium" member I have no clue. New folks can't even come and ask a question without being ridiculed and called "stupid" or ignored.

There will come a day when you will say "Damn he was right". Have you ever lost access to a site like this because it died and was no more? I have many times and it was always because they refused to acknowledge or take self responsibility for their own mistakes.

Now you can PM Mark back, beat your chest like an ape and tell him you did your "good buddy" part and took a stab at me too... Also tell him he won... I'm out of here, and there will never be one good word about this site ever come out of my mouth or it's sponsors again...

Good luck with your little "privileged" private club here guys...

quite a discussion about a metal strap

the forum is probably not so busy as it was cause a lot of questions have been answered and there are tons results through search, its a pretty cool database if you ask me its not fb here.

True but tbh something like fluids alot of those are outdated and i always want to keep those recent. My search engine atleast always points me to older 2005 posts so thats why i ask lol. but also yeah i may get a hold down i dont hardcore offroad and roads are smooth to work so no worries about hitting the hood in the mean time. It came to mind thats all.
