I just got a set of newer leafs that have under 100k on them, was wondering how well using approx 2 xj packs with a shackle would work for lift?
My XJ rear was sitting low, but I had a spare used set of leafs from a 1969 Mustang sitting here. They were actually too high for the Mustang, hence why they were spare.
Anyway, I added all the longer leafs to the XJ and removed the shorter ones. The result is 5 nice long leafs, a great ride and factory ride height. Heavy duty too as it doesn't seem to drop much when I tow neither.
I admit, it was more luck than judgement - but it worked for me.
If you keep the top XJ leaf, you can use almost any 2" wide spring with leaf with the centre hole in an acceptable location.
Visit the local breakers with a tape measure and see what you find.
Trial and error sadly, but my fix took 1/2 hour and cost £0 (that is almost exactly $0, even in Canadian!!!!)
