BAM!! and now somethings broke
hello
I heard a loud pop then it was followed by knocking that correlates with vehicle speed. the faster I go the faster it gets and so on. U joints are good, and so are fluid levels. When I hear the noise and put it in neutral the sound goes away. T-case or rear-end.....anyone or any suggestion to steer me in the right direction would be awesome the knocking is constant when in motion now if that helps |
Does the sound happen when you are just sitting in drive, but not moving (like at a stop light)?
|
only when i am moving.

Check your mounts, and flexplate. Weather it is neutral or not the sound would not go away if it was the xfercase or rearend,it sounds like it is torgue related.

have you pulled your diff cover?
Have a pan underneath to catch all the gear oil and broken gears. Ah... I misread the original post, I didn't think you put it in neutral while it was moving. That narrows it down to the tranny. I would still pull the rear diff cover, it's always a good thing to do... |
I did pull the inspection plate and everything looked good

I know i had this same thing ussally happened under hard acceleration...I must have checked my flex plate 20 times, but then when I welding in a new floor this summer I found the problem.. My E-Brake cable had this steel bracket connecting the wire and under hard accell it would bounch up and down off my floor and driveshaft....as of yet all I did to fix it was pull the e-brake up one click going to order a new cable this spring when its not -35 outside...gotta love Canadian winters

89whiteXJ and I figured it out. One tooth on the pinion has about a 1/4 inch missing from it. Thanks to all for helping.
