How did you make out with having the driveshaft disconnected?

thank you for reminding me. No pinion bearing it is indeed the wheel bearing... But since there is no play i am going to have to leave it for now as money is tight.... I will check it periodically to make sure everything is good. But i believe it is pitted bearings causing it. I will pull the wheel off later and turn it by hand to see what the bearing feels like.

If it is pitted it should feel like there is sand in it.... And then i can also check to feel any play as well

My wheel bearing did the same thing, no play but when removed it felt like there was sand in it.

up, that is what i am hoping it is to be honest... Because its not good for the bearings but that means i can hold off a little bit on replacing them... I had a set of carbon race wheels on my race bike with pitted bearings and man did it suck till i fixed them.... So maybe my jeep will be happy to get new bearings too

Yep, you've got a good plan going. Just be prepared; if your Jeep is anything like mine, that wheel bearing is going to go at the worst possible time. Good luck and keep us updated with your findings.

I didn't get any pics of the wheel bearing/hub assembly I broke in half, but I have one of the other wheel bearing/hub assembly I completely trashed if you want to see some wheel bearing carnage. Wheel bearing was pitted, rusty, and had a couple broken *****. It finally quit when the piece of metal that holds the bearing broke off. Mine didn't grind or anything, but when they finally went it locked up the front wheels travelling at atleast 25mph. You atleast have some warning signs and hopefully you can replace yours before they get that bad.
