Default Bad Sputtering!

hey guys my cherokee is a 97' started having this reoccuring issue over the past few months and it has steadly gotten worse. what is happeneing to my jeep is some nasty sputtering. when i start up my jeep and pull out of the driveway i can get about 500 feet and it starts to stall out..if i floor it it goes away and drives normal again...besides doing it from a startup it will also do it when i am taking off from a stoplight, and sometimes randomly when i am just driving along. again like i said flooring it will make it go away. when sitting still my idle will be fine for a few minutes and then drop down to like 300rpm and start hesitating and then it will correct itself and start idling normal again. i am stumped. i have a new cap, rotor, plugs, and wires with less then 2000 miles on them too.

any help would be appreciated

thanks guys!

haha, we have clone jeeps i think.. mine had SAME issue- buck, chug and hesiatate, feels like its gonna stall at a stop and flooring if for a sec seems to clear it up... i replaced EVERYTHING- TPS, IAC valve, cap/rotor, plugs/wires, then the o2 sensors (both at same time with GOOD replacements, 110/ea.) this made the biggest difference, but issue soon returned. so down came gas tank... and WOW was it full of things other that gas!!! leaves, sand and a gasket proably from old pump. the new pump/filter assembly went in and hesitation is gone! now i just gotta deal with the PCM...

I had "bad things" going on. Finally turned out the wires going down there by the front of the engine, near the PS pump where grounding on the heat shield. Floored it would always go like hell.

Fix your CEL first before going on a wild goose chase, Just because someone else had spitting and sputtering doesn't mean it's the same cause ,so far you have three differant fixes, and none said they had a CEL but you do.I had sptting and sputtering in my 1996, and I put dry gas in it and it was fine. Now you have four answers.CEL first its atleast telling you something is wrong with it.Of course that 160 degree t-stat isn't helping out with your computer either.

It comes on when the coolant gets to about 218*, winter or summer. Might be a bit higher late 91 to 01 though.
