Default Bad Antifreeze = big problem?

Okay, so I thought I understood the importance of flushing antifreeze and keeping it fresh. I regularly changed the antifreeze by draining the old running water through the radiator until clean, draining, adding distilled water and antifreeze. I did this at the beginning of the summer. Well today I am sitting at a red light and my overflow tank starts having a fit and puking antifreeze everywhere. I got home let it cool down and pull the cap.

This is what I get.

My question is what happened? and what is the best way to clean this crap out of my engine? 3-4 months ago this was nice and green.

Well that is rust.
Hmm, I can't say it happened, but it is plausible.
Electrolysis could cause the engine to rust internally.
The cause of electrolysis can be a faulty ground and the power micro arcing through the coolant.
That is just a guess on what could've happened in just 3 months.
Sorry I can't offer more.
just flush the system and refill and see if it still heats.

Did you put in a DexCool antifreeze? I've heard second-hand of a lot of problems with that type -- eating away head gaskets, etc.

It actually wasn't over heating either. Someone honked at me and said I was leaking something. Gauge was fine. Oil is clean also so no head gasket problem.

Dexcool is orange correct? I used Prestone green stuff.

Whats the best way to do it? If I do the normal water flush I think the stuff is a little to gummy to be washed away. Any additive that does a good job of dissolving the garbage?
