backfeeding the electrical system
I want to change my battery and probably the terminals. I have a flashing alarm LED on my dash which makes me think there's some type of alarm system that I don't have a remote for.
I need to keep 12V on the system while the battery's out (I'm afraid if the "alarm" looses power it might go into some sort of immobilization mode). Could I use a couple lantern batteries and a lighter plug to plug into the accessory outlet on the dash? Will this power everything that needs to be powered?
And most important....Will I fry anything?
thanks

Most autoparts stores sell a tool that plugs into the accessory outlet that keeps everything powered....it's not to expensive.
Here is one I found online.

I called ahead to have the battery tested. Of course it wasn't ready. So while I was walking around, sure enough they had one of those adapters.
$5.00 - no problem for some peace of mind.

That's what I really need to do. The override is connected to the turn signal switch. Knock on wood, it's started every time, but sooner or later I have to do something about it. It'd be nice if I could at least ID the unit. Maybe it's got remote start and I could track down a remote for it.
