I am just trying to figure out what axels I have. I have a 1998 4.0L and I think I have the Chrysler 8.25 rear and the dana 30 up front is that right?

Also, would either of these be a bad idea to lock up?

Yep, front is a D30 (probably a High Pinion) & the rear is a Chrysler 8.25 (probably 29 spline). Both would be ok to lock, what size tired are you planning on runnin & what kind of wheelin do you do? Locking with stock shafts , 35" tires could potentially be bad if you have a heavy foot.

There are 31's on there with stock gearing. And it's my DD so nothing real crazy. But I'm in NW ohio, so snow, some mud and moderate trails. But no serious rock crawling and also, on the street I baby it.

Ok, ya not a bad thing to lock your axles. I live in Buffalo NY, so same type of wheeling here. You thinkin about lunchbox lockers? If so (they are least expensive) talk to some guys that run them in the snow. I ended up deciding against using my Spartan on my rear. If you're interested I have a brand new not opened Spartan for an 8.25 29 spline I'm gonna get rid of.

I was actually thinking arb air, they are ridiculously low priced right now, it might be a mistake but I'll try anyway and how much you asking for that?

Let me see what I paid for it. The whole ARB smokin deal isn't really panning out. But the D30 reverse rotation might actually be that $377 price. Keep in mind that if you go that route you need a compresser too, no big deal, just another thing.

That's the route I'm going. Air front & rear. Install is pushin $1,000 & if you do that you might as well regear now too if you're gonna run larger tires in the future.

Yeah I know it, but figure if you can actually get away with that price it saves some money for a better setup.

You're right. Just be sure to verify if you have the HP or LP D30 (as HP would be reverse rotation). Don't know why, but I think that comes into play when ordering the Air Lockers.

Gotcha, we'll let me know what you want for that spartan. I just have to think about cause if I was getting an auto I would rather put it in the front.
