8/89? Damn I'm pretty certain that would be considered a 1990 model year....

Jeep / chrysler sure does strange things.

Good grief no... $300-$400 will get you an AX-15 with good synchros.

1989-1999 all used the AX-15, what changed in 1995 was switching from an internal slave cylinder to an external slave cylinder. The transmission is the same, the bellhousing is different. They're both reliable, just the earlier model's a real pain in the *** if you have to service the slave cylinder...

2000+ uses the NV-3550 which is also a fine swap. They're in TJs too. Just damn rare.

To change transmissions you'll need the whole thing, bell housing too, and a pile of the clutch parts. I'm not well versed on it but everything except the flywheel I imagine would cover it...

Sounds like the synchro for first gear is blown if it's just popping out. People love to jam transmissions into first when still moving for some reason. I don't get it.

Yes. The only differences are the front seats, doors, and side panels.

Same length driveshaft. If you have 4WD, you'll need to change transfer cases or change the input gears. Chart here: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge...nput_gears.htm I am not sure if the output shafts are different in 2WD models.
