AX-15
I've owned over 40 jeeps and stripped half of them. Trust me, the middle of '89 production is when the ax15 was introduced. I'm around 5 for 5 on transmission pilot change...both 90 mj's I've had with the 5 speed have small input, and both 91 ax15's I've had had the large input.
The pilot seems to be a "mixed report" thing - because I've had reports of both sizes through 1993 (although more small than large. You just got lucky?) Anyhow - it's at least something that should be watched out for, in the absence of any "hard" information otherwise...
(Aisin Seiki is on my list of manufacturers to write anyhow...)

Great information here, reviving an old thread- here is my issue: I just picked up a frankenstien 1988 XJ Wagoneer/Cherokee. It appears it was an original automatic 4.0 4wd. Now it is 2wd 5 speed. It looks like it was converted? Possibly to carburetor, but not sure. I mean, not sure if it originally had EFI. So my question is- it sounds like I need to find an AX 15, already has a bell housing and such all hooked up, with a matching T case? Here is the next part- as soon as I can, I am using this XJ as a donor for my 88 MJ. I am detailing, painting and really making the MJ nice, and plan on using the lift kit and everything I can out of this XJ, and I want the MJ to be a 4.0 5 speed truck, and it is currently a 2.5 five speed truck. Thoughts?
