AW4 shifting funny
I am having some trounle with my AW4. - 1990
It is problem that only accurs 40% of the time driving.
It doesn't seem to want to shift at the right time. I.e 1st to 2nd at 2000rpm instead of 1300(slow parkinglot driving). Or out on the road it revs up to 2750 before going into 2nd then 2800 into 3rd and no 4th. Other times it has the same shift points but goes in to 4th. It is not slipping, it slams into the next gear. probably due to the high rpm.
A couple of days ago it was in 3rd and I was easing off the gas to see if I could get it into 4th, when it desided to go into 2nd and stayed there for about a mile. i was only doing 37(60kmh) mph. But I don't like running it at 3000rpm for to long.
Other days it shifts like it is brand new, like riding on a cloud.
This started happening out of nowhere, no sign or anything.
What is going on?
What I have done:
Checked the ATF, at hot it sits right on the full mark.
The fluid appears(from what it left on the paper when checking level) to be nice and bright-red, no burned smell at all. (I don't know if it has been changed)
I do have a problem with voltage bouncing all overthe place while driving(hitting bumps and accelerating) could this be messing with the signals to the tranny?
To me there seems to be something wrong with whatever controlls the shift points, but I have no idea where to start.
Also, I have adjusted the TPS according to the manuall and it sits at .824v at idle.
I hope someone has any idea what to do.
Thanks

Well, THIS! > "I do have a problem with voltage bouncing all overthe place"
Also...the TPS flat three wire connecter is the engine side. The square trans side uses a separate strip in the TPS, (and works opposite). My trans side went south, while my engine side was still working. The "clearly embossed" letters on the square plug can be pretty hard to see, but they are indeed there!
