AX-15 is stronger..AW4 proneto over-heating but a tranny cooler fixes that. both have advantages and disadvantages

aw4 can handle up to around 400hp. Not sure about the ax-15. I do believe that the ax-15 case is stronger though. Really your arguing whats better an auto or straight drive. It's all opinion, everyone thinks they have the right answer but there is advantages and disadvantages to both.

If you go to swap it into your 93 you will need TCU and wiring harness if I'm not mistaking

plus a clutch / pedal assembly and everything else. Standard to an auto easy. Auto to Standard pain the rear to the nth degree.

My old mans been a Chrysler mechanic for 25 years and the last 12 have been strictly tranny. He's never had an AW4 apart, and they can handle a ton of horses, but if they do go for a crapper its an expensive fix.

Not when you can just pick up another one out of the junk yard if it dies. Tranny from pull-a-part with a warrenty is under a 100 bucks. Average rebuild cost is well over a grand with labor. I'll buy ten junk ones before I rebuild a aw4. They're good from over 200K just like the 4.0 if treated right. I just wish it had a selector to keep it in first gear instead of 1-2.
