Would swapping from an automatic to a manual be worth the time and trouble? I have a some kind of electrical problem causing my transmission not to shift righ now anyways, i have to shift it manually through the gears anyway.
What kind of electrical work will i have to do to do the swap?
Will i need a different ECU, and will i need a TCU at all?
will i have any sensors to bother about?
before i dig into this project i want to know what im getting my self into!
If anyone knows of a manual on swapping it would be help full

 

What year xj do you have? 95 and older are simple electronically. Just have to bypass the neutral safety switch. 96 and up is alot more work. I just bought a wrecked 99 for parts for my 98 swap.

 

Just have to jump the nss. Need the slave cylinder assembly,pedal assemby,trans,t-case,trans mount, clutch kit, flywheel, bell,clutch fork, etc. Best bet is to buy a parts xj with a stick.

 

So my ecu dosent come into play when I swap to a manual? And what about the tcu that just gets cut out of the system right?

 

the TCU is for the auto, the only thing controlling the manual tranny is, your left foot and right hand

 

Ok so my ECU wont know the differance from a auto to a manual?
