AW-4, NP-231 crossover issues?

I have a 1991 two-door sport 2WD
I found a 1988 parts-XJ with it's 4WD intact.
I was originally holding-out for a 1991-1996 parts vehicle for my conversion, but I was bored this afternoon so I scoped it out.
Problems:
1988 had a speedometer cable, my 1991 does not
1988 had that silly vacuum-locking arrangement (there is a cable kit... worth it?)
what differences are there electrically??? speed sensors and such?
I can score the parts I want from it for $300 (transmission, transfer case, front and rear driveshafts, TC shifter, console bits, front diff)

when it works, it works well. that said, you can either get a cable setup for it, you can shim it to lock it in permenantly, or you can swap 1 piece shaft in with the proper seal. I actually just use a vacuum switch from a semi truck in mine

the 88 is a 21 spline trans output (and therefore 21 spline t-case input)
all of the sensors will work with it, though the shift solenoids may differ in how they mount. that said, they will still function properly.
you will need to swap the torque converter from the H.O. XJ into the renix aw4 in order to match up the bolt pattern. when you do that, replace the front seal on the aw4...it's less than $5 and easy to replace, so do it now....But when you go to the parts store, they'll look @ you like you're nuts. so re-iterate to them that you need the FRONT aisin-warner 4 input seal.

it's a good deal.
you don't want to seal off the speedo cable port. that's where you're gonna bolt your electric speedo sensor into...they're directly interchangeable.
