Aux. Lighting Question
Alright guys a few months ago i purchased a pair of the good 'ol wal-mart fog lights. Eventually i broke the cheap lights and ordered some kc style lights off ebay that i am really impressed with. Only problem is the power wire to my switch and a wire connector on that wire got melted! I smelled something burning so i pulled over and my lights just shut off and i looked under the dash and there was a melted, smoking, wire and connector. i just used the wire harness that came with my wal mart lights i figured maybe my new lights are pulling to much power for the small wire which is causing it to melt... just an idea. i believe the wire i have now is 12 or 14 gauge. Any help is MUCH appreciated thanks guys.

you should consider yourself very lucky you didn't start an electrical fire.

Wrong set-up. you need to be running your lights off a relay and not a switch in the dash. when I decided to go about wiring lights myself this is the write-up I went by: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...ry/relays.html

I agree with this 100% and btw thats a good link!
I have found that automotive relays are available at my local radioshack for a pretty good price....(4-6$) pretty sure they had 20 30 and 40 Amp ones....also a decent selection of switches

definitely need to be on a relay. i usually get them from the junk yard. lots of neat stuff to be found there. some fords have a nice little box that holds four relays with a cover.
