95 Cherokee IL6 automatic stock

here's the problem... every time you go to start it you need to pull or push on the shift lever and then turn the key at the same time which is more difficult than it sounds haha. didn't think much of it at first but it's starting to worry me it seems to be getting worse.

maybe non related but it also stalled when I stopped at a light today....is there some sensor that would trigger both the touchy shifter and the stall??

never had it stall before. no hard noise in the stall.....just shut off like I turned the key off...

any ideas????

 

NSS ie neutral safety switch is the problem with the key turning

 

yeah I read that on another forum post but would it cause a stall?
maybe the two aren't related but I thought it might be possible.

 

I agree with the NSS issue. The stall could be anything from a dirty throttle body to an IAC issue. Codes would help. How long has it been since you cleaned the TB or IAC?

 

maybe 2 mos since I cleaned the tb never cleaned the iac on the jeep. try cleaning both and see if it happens again.
