I haven't looked yet but I think my tranny might be low on fluid. Its a AW4, manula sez it needs Dexron II. Can I use Dexron III, just adding one quart if it's low? Thanks in advance fellow Jeepers.

 

Use dexron III with confidence. You can also use valvoline maxlife mercon/dexron which is a premium fluid. You can top it off or do a drain/refill which is super easy on XJs due to presence of drain plug.

 

Thank you very much. To clarify, I can put dexron III into the tranny that currently has Dexron II? I will be doing a flush in 2 weeks or so, I just need to top off possibly, and want to make sure it's ok.

Use DexIII. It is an "upgraded" fluid and replaces DexII. I didn't even think DexII was still on the market! LOL

When I replaced the trans filter on mine, I did a full trans flush and used DexIII... At 196K... No problems...
