I'm sure if you want more there are more.

With enough money just about anything is possible.

Sure if you want to spend a ton of money, but why would you want to spend more when it is pretty obvious that a 350/400/700R4/4L60 are probably the best transmissions made. There is a reason that they still make the 350 and 400 over 20 years after they stopped using them in production cars. It's like asking someone it they would rather have a Dana 35 or a Ford 9 inch.

Well since the 350 is a better trans you might as well put a sbc in there while your at it cause its such a better engine than the 4.0

Well a SBC would definitely be more powerful. I haven't had any problems with my 4.0 or my AW4, so I do not really plan on replacing either of them. I don't understand how people can actually believe an AW4 compares to a 350. A 350 is a heavier duty transmission. The person who started the post asked a simple question "can it be done?" Yes it can. Why you would need a 350 with a 4.0? I have no idea.

exactly i was being sarcastic. when you start pushing 300+ HP in your jeep then you might want to upgrade.

We can do the "what ifs" all day long but after re-reading the op, I still see nothing that would indicate a need/advantage to swap in a TH350. Unless the OP says different, I will continue to presume he is talking stock. From everything I've read, the AW4 is the strongest mechanical part in a stock XJ. My guess is, it would rob more power from the crank just to turn a TH350 vs an AW4. It sure takes more power to turn a TH400 vs a TH350.

Shift kits, stall convertors, cheaper parts those are all advantages and that's not even bringing up the strength. Whether or not its needed who knows. But it can be done.

The AW4 is so good that it doesnt need a large aftermarket lol

Seriously there is no point in upgrading the trans behind the 4.0, it will handle anything the motor will throw at it

I agree. If your keeping the 4.0 stick with the AW4. If your going to put a Chevy motor in it like the guy in the video you might wanna upgrade.

wow! thanks for all the feed back. just to clear things up....im not swaping trans out of my xj. it still shifts great with 167,000 on it, but i will look into adding a cooler to it though. i was just curious why anyone would put a turbo 350 in in place of aw4. i just couldnt see any benefits to it, so thought id ask, thats all.
thanks again for all the feed back.

the reason is chrysler's slushboxes have always been suspect when compared to other manufacturers autos, that is the straight truth, no jeep/chrysler slant

I have a turbo 350 in an 82 Chevy, (originally a diesel) and the diesel ending up having close to 300K on the clock, and now I converted it to gas, and it has been running another 150K
and the trans is still going. the only thing that I have had to do is filter changes, and recently the vacuum modulator took a crap
