hi guys I have a 96 xj 4.0 auto that the motor is blown up in and I have a complete 93 xj that I was going to take the motor and 5spd trans out of a swap into the 96. I was wondering if there were going to be any issues with the wiring harnesses I should be aware of or should look for? Or any other issues that I should know about before I dive into this? Or would I be better off rebuilding the engine and keep the auto? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
As much as I love manuals it'd be a lot easier to put just the engine in. They will swap without issue. No accessories or sensors - JUST the long block.
Running a stick in a previously auto XJ is doable, though, check the Modified Tech section for one of the many swap threads, or hit up Google.
Transplanting the entire '93 PCM and wiring into a '96 is not really a great idea because of fuel system differences.

ok so say I swapped just the long block into the 96 and kept all of the sensors and serpentine setup and whatnot but still used the ax 15, is there any difference between a pcm from an automatic xj to a pcm from a manual xj?
Yep. Did you do a search yet? They use a different TPS, wiring harness, don't have a TCU, and a couple other things. It's doable but you have to hack the NSS/clutch interlock/reverse switch and live with a CEL.
yea I see what your saying now. ive been doing a lot of research. looks like ill probably just end up swapping the blocks out and just keeping the auto for now so I can get it going again since it also serves as my daily work driver as well. Thanks a lot for the info Salad! much appreciated!
