asking what is best oil weight to use for summer on 94 xj with inline 6

Default asking what is best oil weight to use for summer on 94 xj with inline 6

i would like to know which is the best oil weight to use on a inline six with 155k on it put new 10w-30 in it but on idle it drops to 10 to 20 lbs oil pressure when warm out side. any ideas

You could go with 10w40 in the summer with no issues.

189k miles valvoline maxlife 10x30 all year long with extended oil change periods because it does not get that dirty at 3k buy at walmart 5 qt. container MY 2 CTS. used since 7/2010 in pa.

FSM calls out 10w-30 for temps never above 100 deg F and 05w-30 for temps never below 0 deg F. I usually run 5w in the summer and 10w in the winter.

The pressure seems low. The FSM calls for a minimum of 13psi at idle plus 10psi per 1000rpm.

The factory gauge on the dash can be inaccurate. I suggest doing an oil change with the proper weight oil and checking your pressure with a mechanical gauge to get an accurate reading.
