I just agreed to buy a little 5x8' trailer that uses the flat 4 pin connector.
My XJ has a hitch installed on it (either factory or from the previous owner) and a factory transmission cooler. It's also got a limited slip rear end. So I don't know if it is considered a 'tow package' model or not. I looked all around back under the bumper and couldn't find any wiring of any sort coming from either of the tail lamps. There's definitely no wiring to the hitch receiver itself. Did Jeep preinstall a connector that they hid somewhere?
If not, does anyone know of a write-up to show which wires to splice into?

I'm replying to myself, but I found this video online that shows how to hook up a trailer wiring harness to the 97-01 XJ.
If anyone needs it for future reference, here's the link:

I do however need the info contained therein!

check in around or behind your spare tire......my XJ came with one that was hidden back there, not sure if this is OEM, or aftermarket....would be worth the look before going to all that other trouble. just my 2 cents worth

Hey chuck i just watched that video and they have everything typed in at the bottom the screen right after the video.. The directions are very basic and not hard to understand so you will be set... Good Luck!!
