Any how-to's on replacing a fuel pump?
I'm about to start doing some major tune-up stuff on my 1990 Cherokee Sport. One of the things I'm doing (just because I can) is replacing the fuel pump... it's probably been over 10 years since that was done and i figured... heck, why not?
But... I've never replaced one myself. I've been told that it's in the fuel tank, so I have to pull and drain that, I guess.
But if anyone's written a walk-through (preferably with pics) of replacing the fuel pump, or if anyone can offer suggestions on how to do it, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks so much. I didn't find any write-ups in my forums search, so I'm turning the experts for help

If you crawl under your XJ you should see that the fuel pump is actually on the front of the fuel tank and you should be able to remove it without dropping the tank. I have not done one but I will need to eventually.
I have done my wifes 97 s10 Blazer and it is a PITA... I have it down to a couple of hours now, but took me about 5 the first time.
So far XJs seem to be far eaiser to work on than my wifes Blazer. Pretty close with my old 82 Chevy though.

to git to the pump it will be on the front of the tank just disconnect the fule lines and wire
make shere u mark where thay go so u dont cross the lines when u put it all back to gether
its held in plays by a locking ring just turn it u shood see wich way when u see it but i think it was conterclockwise just pull it out and install new pump and reinstall

Dude those are EASY all you need is a Brass punch and a Brass hammer right on the tank behind the rear axle it's 1-2-3 done! But don't try to take it out if you have over a quarter tank of gas or else your gonna get soaked or worse

unless its broken or not reading correct fuel left in tank i wouldnt mess with it.. if you want to change something.. change the fuel filter..
theres a massive one right near the tank that might be pretty dirty..

Wow, that sounds easy. I appreciate the advice about the "if it ain't broke..." part though. Maybe I'll start with the fuel filters and see how it changes things first.
Appreciate the advice guys!
