To put your minds at rest, 96 is the last year they used an HCV. Because they finally realized it was a **** poor design. Which is why if anyone who has a 96 or older does any work to their cooling system that requires you to drain the coolant, delete the HCV entirely. They're super prone to leaking and will just cause you a headache at some point down the line.

Did you replace the heater core or did you have it done at a shop? If you had it done at a shop I would take it back as soon as you can. Heater cores normally have 3 years if not more warranty on them. If a shop replaced it talk to them and see what kind of warranty they give on there work. Hopefully they gave you a warranty on the labor. Also I wouldn't recommend putting any stop leak in the cooling system in our 4.0 since the cooling systems aren't the greatest to start with and it could cause more problem down the road. If you do have to put stop leak the only one I would recommend is the stuff made by Barrs Leak. Not the brown stuff with the large pellets but the stuff that comes in a small plastic tube and it a silver powder.
