Where should I begin to look for diagnosing why my antenna is not lowering?
anyone experience this before?
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
what year XJ do you have ?
on my '96, there is a fuse in the under dash cluster
the FSM has a chapter in the electrical section called "Antenna"
on a '96, you got to remove a wheel, and the fender rubber splash guard to get to the antenna motor itself

The power antenna on earlier XJs was prone to this, it has a line attached to the antenna that is plastic, similar to heavy weed trimmer line. It tends to break with age/use. Lucky for us jeep sourced this from the same supplier of many 70s-80s GM cars , the C4 corvettes and mid eighties Buick Grand Nationals are the main ones that help us because the part is now available through parts suppliers for these. I was able to obtain one from a Buick restoration supply company. I will dig out the papers when I am able to get you the info. I believe it was less than $30 including shipping.
As for the install , you will have to remove the plastic inner fender cover to gain access. Also check under the glove box, the relay was more than likely disconnected when it stuck in the up position as the contact would not be broken and the motor would keep running. This would be a good check to make sure that's the issue. There is a good video on you-tube showing someone installing the new part into a Grand National, different car but the process is the same. I am not good with computers so I cant put the link up but a search on you tube should find it .
