i have searched high and low and can not find anything on the type of noise my xj is making. So basically when i accelerate when parked on a hill or i have a heavy load or get on the throttle when stopped on flat grounnd i get a thump thump thump until i let off the gas you can feel it in your feet in the front and backseat and it is loud enough to be heard from outside the jeep. i have changed the tranny mount and motor mounts it sounds like a body mount but they dont have those my muffler is also secured. any help is much appreciated

 

I have a similar issue, just started a new thread today. I notice it more when i turn right but it also does it while going straight. I changed my front axle u-joints but it didnt fix the problem (one of them was really bad though). Also pulled the front driveshaft thinking it might be a driveshaft u-joint, did both u-joints in the rear driveshaft, inspected both rear diffs and changed fluid, still have the same problem. My motor mounts and tranny mounts look okay so i didnt change them.

Someone suggested checking the track bar, i havent done that yet. May also be a problem in t-case.. hoping I don't have to pull that out. Let me know if you make any progress..

 

i have changed all the driveline u joints except for the front ones in that wierd knuckle but i drove without the front driveline on and still made the noise and i replaced all the steering components with the hd kit from central 4wd

 

Is it something that increases.with speed? I guess it could be a really really bad case of wheel bearings.... I've heard those thump and I've heard em grind. Or maybe you should check underneath again for.a dead body?

 

Do you hear the noise when you throttle up in Park or Nuetral? I'm thinking it could possibly be loose Torque Converter bolts or if 's a manual, something loose in the clutch.

 

I dont know what dead body is and it isnt a constant noise just when there is pressure on the drivetrain like going up a steep hill or i acelorte fast from a stop sign and it doesnt make the the noise when reved up in neutral and its a automatic

 

Though I had the same problem a month ago, thumped only when you were on the gas and thumped to the wheel rotation.. I checked the same thi gs as you didnt do anything. Turns out I had sheared a stud off on my wheel lol

 

and the thump sounds like it goes with a revolution or something

Does having your transfercase in 4HI or 4LO make any difference?

 

no it makes in 4hi and 2 wheel drive never got on it enough in 4L to see if it would make the noise
