Default Another Overheat Question

Hello All,

I have a 95 four door 4.0L inline 6. automatic lifted 3" on 31's.

I was on my way to a nice trail search out near Crozet VA. I had just pulled over to start looking for the trail head when I noticed my Temp was pegged over 260 deg. I pulled over and popped the hood. Let the engine cool down and added more water to the res. I figured there was too much risk in heading out with a possible overheating issue so I started back on the highway with the heat on high. Although i kept an eye on the gauge, i had no more heat problems.

Although i had filled the coolant tank the day before I noticed the coolant was a brown rust color. Also when i was parked with the hood open, I never heard the auxiliary fan turn on. in fact it never turned on.

So my question. Where to start searching for a fix?

thanks in advance

Pull the connector off of the water temp sensor and see if the fan comes on. It should get energized via the fan relay at 213 Deg. F.

Does it come on when you turn the A/C on?

Swap in a known good fan relay and try it again.

The Jeep 4.0L is cast iron........cast iron rusts when neglected/unprotected. Keep flushing 'til it stays green/clear.
