You literally could have had something caught up in a tire, slowed down to stop and had it fly off. Hope nothing important breaks at a bad time (theres never a good time, but 70 on the highway is a BAD time). Good luck.

Nope, it never changes with braking or accelerating... until it stopped altogether.

Could be the rear brakes. I had the brakes come apart inside the drum and I could hear parts in the drum while in reverse and driving slow but at higher speeds i could not hear it. I could not feel a difference while braking. I would pull off the drum and check things out.
