Ambient air tempature sensor
I have a 1990 cherokee and my overhead console says SC where the temp should be.
Is there a way to check the sensor? And what does SC mean.
Thankyou.

SC is indicating a "Short Circuit" in the sensor wiring or in the sensor itself. Drat, I forgot the testing procedure and Im not at home this week to look it up.

That would be an open circuit. Usually if its throw all sorts of temps then your sensor probably is going. Found up under the radiator on the bumper brace.
Keep in mind if you are sitting still in traffic that temp will rise until you get going again.

I wont get home until Friday evening from business travel but I do have the testing procedures at the house. I can post them then unless someone else has them.

LoL...well if the temp is above 131 degrees then you'll get the SC but if its that hot you have more to worry about then a sensor! LOL

If you want a good laugh. The local Mopar/Jeep parts dealer, wants $695.00 for a replacement comp/temp module. (a twenty year old part) I almost drop the phone, when I heard that. I should of asked what kind of warranty it had.

Ya they told me it was over 600 bucks to. Just find someone parting a XJ and but it off them. I got one from Jeep85 on this forum. Does anyone know how to test just the sensor down by the bumper or if any other Jeep sensors will work?

Disconnect the line from the sensor and with an ohmmeter measure for resistance between 336K and 2.488K ohms. If not replace. RockAuto.com has them.
